My favorite show of all time, is Wicked. It’s a musical about the untold
story of the witches of Oz. It has a lot of great songs and a very comical side
to it. I really like it, because even though it’s a fantasy story about witches
and munchkins, it also has a kind of truth to it. The green girl, Elphaba, has
been an outsider all her life, and just wants to fit in and help people out.
All she hopes to do is meet there wizard, and not feel like she does not belong
anymore. When she finally does so, he cons her, and calls her the wicked witch
of the west. She tries to clear her name, but ends up going into this
uncontrollable spiral of hatred and revenge seeking. She was just a girl who
did not fit into society’s eyes, and could not change the way people saw her-
as the green witch on the outside, and not the heartfelt loving girl on the in.
Another very good show I enjoy quite a lot is Les Miserables. It is about a man who has been sent to a kind of jail for 19 years, simply for stealing a loaf of bread... and then trying to break out before his time was up. He is then let out and bumps into this poor woman who bore a little girl. The mother becomes sick and eventually dies, but before this happens, Jean Valjean (the man who was in jail) promises to keep the dying woman's little girl safe and secure. While he had been released, the antagonist of the story, Javert, tries his harder to make Valjean's life as miserable as possible. It then goes into a future with him as an older man and her as a teenager. She meets a boy named Marius, and instantly falls in love with him. In the meantime, this girl Eponine is madly in love with Marius without him ever even knowing about it. Marius and Cossette (the now grown little girl) get married, and live a good life together. When all of this is happening, there is a Revolution about to begin- the French Revolution. Javert finally realizes how bad a person he has been his entire life, and decides to take his own life. Then they all go to battle, and eventually everyone but Valjean and a few other survivors, die. It is an operetta with a lot of passion and meaning, and I highly recommend you going to see it. I promise you, you won't be let down.
